Not much depth or commentary on the culture. Missed a good opportunity. I have never visited China but I think this book only represent a small part of the society, and that too not a very interesting part for me.

hmm, too bad... i really loved this book. i think maybe it was more personally resonant for me because i've spent so much time over there, but i found the whole thing laugh-out-loud funny.
ReplyDeletei admit that she doesn't unleash as much new knowledge about china as she does about the expat experience in china, but in a way i think she was toning it down in her book. she writes some great and very informative journalist pieces on china that i've come across (i think most of them are for british papers like the independent).
anyway. i did like this book a lot.
